Emil Stoyanov was born in Plovdiv in 1959.

He finished the German Language High School and graduated in literature from the universities in Plovdiv and Leipzig.

He is author of 3 books and over 100 articles and translations from German.

In 1990 Emil Stoyanov founded the University Publishing House, and in 1992 – Pygmalion Publishers, specializing in publishing German language fiction. Till present moment Pygmalion published above 100 German, Austrian and Swiss authors.

Emil Stoyanov was Deputy Director General of the Bulgarian National Television in 1998.

In May 2000 Pygmalion Publishers organized in Plovdiv a European meeting Berlin – Plovdiv under the patronage of the former chairwoman of the German Parliament Rita Süssmuth.

In 2001 he founded the first news television in Bulgaria – Evropa TV and is the co-chairman of its Board of Directors. Evropa Television has more than 1 000 000 spectators per day.

In 2002 Emil Stoyanov was awarded by the President of the Republic of Austria with the Honorary Cross for Science and Art for his exceptional contribution in making Austrian literature popular in our country.

In 2005 Emil Stoyanov was awarded with the Honorary Cross of merit to German culture for his long standing efforts to popularize it in Bulgaria.

In 2005 he established the Pygmalion Foundation whose goal is to support literature and arts.

In 2006 the Pygmalion Foundation became a co-founder of the big European project Halma. 22 literary and cultural institutions from 16 countries took part in it. The leading institution was the Literary Colloquium in Berlin. The project was started with the blessing of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

In 2008 the Pygmalion Foundation together with the Cultural Foundation Edenkoben from the Federal Republic of Germany became a co-founder of the literary project Balkan Alphabets whose manager is Ingo Wilhelm.

In 2009 Emil Stoyanov was elected Member of the European Parliament from the list of GERB, which belongs to the European People’s Party.

In the European Parliament he is member of the Committee on Culture and Education and the Delegation for Relations with Israel, as well as deputy member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism and the Delegation for Relations with Australia and New Zealand.
